Christmas 2019 Black Santa Sit-out

On Monday 23rd December, the Rector joined forces with Fr Brendan Smyth as two “Black Santas” with the aim of raising as much money as possible for The Simon Community NI homeless charity and the St. Vincent de Paul Society charity tackling poverty.

The “Black Santas”, standing out (or occasionally sitting) close by the junction of High Street and Catherine Street in Killyleagh between 9am and 5pm were treated royally by the people of Killyleagh who supported them with company, chat, nourishment and refreshments.

More importantly, the generosity of those in Killyleagh on the day was noticeable, with around £3500 donated to go with the £2000 or so raised in Crossgar on Friday 20th December. A huge thank you is due to everyone for their generosity in supporting this community initiative.
